If you could invent a new ship type, what would it be?

Hey guys,

This is my first post on EVE forums despite the fact i've been playing since Nov 06. If i were to make a new ship type, it would be a mobile defense ship for fleet warfare. The goal of the ship is that it would bring up a barrier (like a shield) up in front of it that would either deflect incoming attacks or weaken then. Each race would specialize in a certain damage type. The strategy would be that in fleet warfare, ships can now place themselves behind the mobile defense ships. This would now add positioning and direction to the warfare. It would allow for more formations and all that.

The ship would probably have a decent tank, very little to none offensive capabilities. The shield barrier wouldn't be too huge, perhaps a 5-10km square shield. I'm not sure how it would logically be affective vs missiles and projectiles. It's just fun to think of it.

Another idea is a suicide ship, it attaches to larger ships and then detonates instantly podding the ship pilot but having massive amounts of damage.

some problems with the ships:

Shield Ship: Encourages blobbing, which is already a massive problem in fleet warfare. Also encourages more Cap Ship use, again, a problem related to blobbing.

Suicide Ship: Has already been discussed, and CCP has unambiguously said they will NOT be intentionally designing a "suicide bomber" ship for EvE. Obviously, you could simply fit a Crapload of smartbombs on a BS and use a cloaked cov-ops to get a warp-in point really close to your enemies. Then detonate all your smarties at once. You'll kill quite a few ships if you are able to pull it off.


My own personal desires for a ship?

I'd like to see a more modular setup for Industrial and Freight ships. Something more like our modern long-haul trucks and Trains. That way, once you skill up you can simply tack on more container bits to your existing ship, rather than having 5 different ships.

Being able to fit a Cov-Ops cloak on a Black-Ops ship would be nice too.

Mobile Artillery T2 Tier 3 Battleships
Role
These ships are designed primarily to destoy capital ships. Their weapons placed on specifically engineered mounts that provide dramatic increases in firepower through stabilized force-dissipation emplacements. These systems, while powerful, interfere with weapon targeting, making them difficult to use against sub-capital class ships.

Battleship Bonuses:
+5% Damage
+5% Resistance/Repair

Mobile Artillery Bonuses:
+10% Optimal Range/Falloff
+10% Shield/Armor HP

Role Bonus: +300% Weapon Damage
Penalty: +300% Weapon Signature Resolution

Siege Platforms (T2 Tier 3 Battleships)
Role
The removal of static infrastructure such as POS guns. These ships have specialized hardware aumentations to improve both damage and the fidelity of their targeting systems. Unfortunately these emplacements are extremely difficult to rotate, limiting their tracking.

Battleship Bonuses
-17.5% Weapon Signature Resolution
+5% Damage

Siege Platform Bonuses
+10% Optimal Range/Falloff
(Don't know)

Role Bonus: +300% Damage
Penalty: -90% Tracking
